Did you watch Oprah Winfrey's amazing speech for Stacey Abrams in Marietta, GA last week? She implored everyone to vote in this historic midterm election by invoking our ancestors:
“For anybody here who has an ancestor who didn’t have the right to vote and you are choosing not to vote wherever you are in this state, in this country, you are dishonoring your family.”
For somebody like me, the descendant of slaves in Cuba, Oprah’s words mean a lot. I was born just six weeks after my mother arrived in New Jersey from Havana, a birthright American citizen who has voted in every national election that I could. I will vote early Tuesday morning, and I’ll be wearing my “I voted” sticker all day!
But let’s face it, we are ALL descendants of WOMEN, who 100 years ago did not have the right to vote in the 1918 midterms. Not until 1920, did women have the right to vote in national elections. The women who fought for women’s suffrage would be incredibly disappointed to know that half of eligible women voters will not vote on Tuesday, based on past midterm patterns. As Oprah said, we honor those women when we vote and dishonor them when we don't.
In a small gesture to honor of this week's important midterm election, Grit + Polish will provide a 10% discount on ALL SERVICES AND PRODUCTS PURCHASED OR BOOKED on Tuesday, Election Day, and Wednesday the day after. All you have to do is wear your "I voted" sticker and book your appointment in person!
This offer CAN BE COMBINED with other offers, including our Tuesday discount for seniors and students!
As my many of my customers know, Grit+ Polish was started to be a "different kind of nail salon" that is dedicated to fostering a sense of community among employees and clients alike, and to promoting positive values. We have hosted book readings, fundraisers, and political “meet and greets.” Voting is the most “pro-community” activity I can think of.
After you vote, stop by the salon Tuesday or Wednesday this week, to celebrate our democracy and book your next appointment!
